Frequently Asked Questions

A typical session lasts about 50 minutes. We have greater flexibility to schedule a longer session(s) if needed as we are not going through insurance networks.
-
You can expect us to complete an intake assessment and set some goals. I use a semi-structured intake assessment that will ask about things like your medical and mental health history, family history, current stressors, and get background information on what you’d like to address in therapy. You’ll quickly learn with me that you can share as much or as little as you’d like. I take care to honor the pace that you want to set and only offer gentle nudges if we need the information.
-
I’ll send you some brief intake paperwork via the secure online portal. You’ll fill out a couple of forms and two quick assessments. This helps our first session go smoothly and helps me prepare for our first session. I’ll also have you complete a form authorizing use of your credit card or FSA/HSA information. We’ll set up automatic payments to make things as convenient and hassle-free as we can.

Insurance offers many advantages as well as disadvantages. A few major disadvantages of using insurance to pay for therapy is that they will typically tell me how often and for how long we can meet (i.e. once per month for six months). They will also have permanent access to your mental health information. Insurance networks determine which providers you can see because they govern who can join their network. When we choose to opt out of insurance networks, we have greater flexibility in determining a course of treatment that works for you. You’ll be able to choose a provider that you want, regardless of whether they are in-network with your plan. You’ll also keep your information private as I will never share this with anyone without your specific written permission.

I ask that you provide me with 48 business hours of notice for need to cancel/reschedule your appointment. This allows me to offer a spot to someone else in need. If you cancel within those 48 hours or no show, my fee is the full rate of your hourly session and is due at the time of the missed appointment.

In my practice I work with adults 18 years and older.

I charge $180 for a 50 minute session. That fee is based on my years in practice, the multiple high level certifications and trainings I’ve completed, and current market rates. Please know that this fee is subject to change each year with inflation and additional continuing education courses.

A Super Bill is a document that you can provide to your insurance company. This will outline the services that we completed, your diagnosis code, and may include other information regarding your treatment plan. Some insurance networks and plans offer out of network benefits. This means that they may reimburse you for a portion of what you paid. Each plan is different, so please call the number on the back of your card to get more information on superbills and your out of network benefits. This could serve as an option if you’re seeking a trained provider who is not in-network.
